Overview

This workshop on Conscious Evolution is one of a series seeking to explore some of the key ideas presented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Each of the Yoga Bones workshops aims to bridge the gap between the intellectual engagement with philosophical ideas and the practical integration into our practice and lives.

In the Conscious Evolution workshop we explore the idea that patterns and narratives provide the basis for how we understand the world.  We highlight the extraordinary human capacity for learning and explore how that ability influences not just how we think and feel but also how we inhabit our bodies. This is a yoga exploration of karma, psychology and anatomy all in one workshop.

Content

  • A tale of human learning, patterns and stories and the place they occupy in our lives – what are they, the functions they perform and how they can be either vital or problematic (and sometimes both!).
  • 3 levels of story telling – in our bodies, in our minds, in our societies. Links to Patanjali.
  • Asana exploration – reading the stories in our bodies
  • Stories in yoga organized around the themes of anatomy and asana, beliefs vs experience, orthodoxy vs innovation, the teacher – student relationship.
  • Introducing Conscious Evolution tools that help cultivate helpful physical patterns and psychological narratives.

Ade in his natural habitat

Ade in his natural habitat

His yoga story is centred around a daily ashtanga yoga practice begun in 2000 and involving extensive periods studying with Nancy Gilgoff at her home in Maui.  Latterly, he has also been influenced by teachings inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli through explorations with Suzi Daw in Brighton.  He was blessed to study the Dharma with Sonia Moriceau up until her death in 2013.

He completed the BWY Diploma in 2004.  From then until 2014 he taught from a converted barn in the Black Mountains of South Wales.  His bodywork studies and practice deeply inform his teaching, which continues from his new home in Sussex and via workshops in the UK and Switzerland.

He is a Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals and a BWY CPD tutor. He has been teaching workshops and extended programmes for yoga students since 2006.
